Safe water and sanitation for rural Rwanda.

We build and rehabilitate water systems, run sanitation and hygiene programmes, and help rural households build a living around them.

To improve the living conditions and resilience of rural populations in Rwanda through sustainable access to safe water, sanitation, health services, education, and other essential basic infrastructure.

Founded in Kigali, 2026

ICVI is a Rwandan non-governmental organisation working in rural water supply, sanitation and community development, with its office in Rusororo, Gasabo.

What we work on

Safe water, sanitation and hygiene, health promotion, livelihoods, basic infrastructure and environmental conservation: six programmes that run alongside each other rather than in sequence, because in a rural community they depend on each other.

How we work

The work is community-driven from start to finish. Water systems are built and rehabilitated, then handed to the communities that run them; sanitation is community-led rather than imposed; and what we learn in the field goes back into how the next project is designed.

Three auditors, appointed each year by the General Assembly. Meets at least twice a year.

Three mediators, elected for three years and renewable twice.

These are obligations the organisation carries, not values chosen for a brochure.

Community-driven

Projects are designed and delivered with the communities they serve. Water points are built with the people who will run them, and sanitation is community-led rather than imposed.

The most vulnerable first

Low-income households, persons with disabilities, mothers and children, women and youth come first. That ordering is fixed, not decided project by project.

Money goes where we say

Funds are collected transparently and spent on the programmes they were given for, benefiting the communities they were raised for.

Checked twice a year

Three independent auditors review the finances and property every six months, with full access to the books, and report back to the membership.

Members hold the reins

The membership approves the annual plan and the accounts, admits new members, and accepts donations. Members are kept informed of everything the organisation does.
