Safe water.Healthy communities.
Integrated Community Vitalflow Initiatives (ICVI) builds and rehabilitates rural water systems in Rwanda, runs sanitation and hygiene programmes, and helps households build a living around them.
To implement innovative and community-driven development initiatives that promote safe water access, improved sanitation, better health outcomes, and socio-economic transformation of the family, especially in rural areas.
Safe water access
Systems built, rehabilitated and handed to the community.
Improved sanitation
Community-led, so it holds once we have gone.
Better health
Fewer waterborne illnesses and better nutrition.
Stronger households
Training and income support around the infrastructure.
What we do
Six programmes that hold each other up.
Safe water is the starting point. Sanitation, health, livelihoods and environmental protection make it last.
All programmesClimate resilience
Rain takes the road. The community puts it back.
ICVI has led a series of community-based initiatives to strengthen resilience to climate change and reduce the impacts of heavy rainfall and soil erosion.
What the rain does
Heavier rainfall
Seasonal rain arrives harder and less predictably than the ground and the roads were built for.
Soil erosion
Water runs off unprotected slopes, taking the topsoil and the roadbed with it.
Damaged access
Roads and crossings are cut, and the routes households use every day stop working.
What we did about it
Roads repaired and improved
Supporting the repair and improvement of roads frequently damaged by heavy rains.
Small bridges built
Contributing to the construction of small bridges across the crossings that fail first.
Community led. Youth driven.
- Community participation
- Environmental protection
- Practical local solutions
Who we work with
Rural households come first.
We work with rural households directly, and with the schools, health centres and local authorities around them.

Directly
Rural households in Rwanda, especially those without reliable access to safe drinking water, sanitation, health services or basic infrastructure.
- Low-income households
- Persons with disabilities
- Mother and child health
Alongside them
- Schools
- Health centres
- Local authorities
- Development partners
Help us reach the next community.
Your support funds the water systems, the sanitation and the training that keeps them running long after the build is finished.
